We are pleased to announce that a European COST Training School for early career researchers "Assessing in writing difficulties: methods, tools and measures for the analysis of the product and the process" is to be held in Padova, Italy, at the Department of Developmental Psychology, 17-19 April 2012. An International Day on Writing Research, in honor of Pietro Boscolo, will follow on April 20th. Attendance to the Writing Day will be free and will not require subscription fees.
The Training School aims at providing intensive training in the use of direct and indirect methods for the assessment of writing difficulties (related to poor writing, LI, deafness, dyslexia, and dysgraphia). The trainees will have the opportunity to analyze and discuss technics and methods in the measurement and analysis of the writing process and product of writers with writing difficulties. All the levels at which writing difficulties can be analyzed will be considered: sublexical, lexical, sentence-level, and textual. The assessment of writing skills across genres and languages will be also discussed.
COST
COST is an intergovernmental framework for European Cooperation in Science and Technology.
COST aims at bringing researchers together in networks. COST Actions involve early career and more experienced scientists, and COST Training Schools give young scientists a platform to access the highest level of expertise from leaders in their fields. The program of the training school will provide students with state-of-the-art knowledge concerning textual analysis and methods and technics of writing research in the field of writing difficulties.
The school will address important issues related to:
textual analysis, with reference to the units of measures (orthographic patterns, words, sentences, textual relations), the analysis of transcription and text generation skills in diverse populations (children with SLI, dyslexia, deafness, etc.), and existing tools for assessing writing in writing research and in clinical contexts.
